Port Townsend
Shopping in this Victorian Seaport and Arts Community is eclectic and entertaining and only a 15 minute ride by car. Sequim
Sequim is the “Lavender Capital of North America.” Sequim, with a climate similar to the Provence region in France, boasts the highest number of lavender farms in North America and offers everything from lavender sachets to lavender ice cream. There are unique gift stores, antique shops and an added option after shopping is the Olympic Game Farm, originally housing some famous Disney animal “actors”.

Poulsbo
Less than 30 minutes away, this Scandinavian town rests on a quiet bay with an active marina in the middle of town. Downtown is one street wide filled with enticing shops of all descriptions: book stores, a Scandinavian bakery, antiques stores, a quilt shop, and clothing shops.

Victoria, British Columbia
Planning ahead is a necessity for this day-trip to the City of Gardens and Castles. A one-hour drive to Port Angeles, and a 55-minute Victoria Express boat ride (end of May to end of September) takes you to the heart of Colonial Victoria with the world class Empress Hotel where high tea is still served daily, the Royal BC Natural History Museum featuring a world-renowned art and artifact collection, The Royal Wax Museum, and the Undersea Gardens, all right at the water’s edge. Museum of the Jefferson County Historical Society
The museum occupies the original City Jail, Police Court and Fire Hall in Port Townsend’s historic City Hall (1892). Exhibits include local native tribal history, early explorers, first settlers, and local maritime history.

Kelly Art Deco Light Museum
Billed as the world’s only Art Deco Light Museum, the visitor is offered a rare glimpse of the years1928 to 1938 through an amazing variety of slip-shade lights from the Great Depression era.

Rothschild House

Bell Tower

US Customs House/Post Office
Built in 1885-1893, this imposing structure has served as the Custom Agent’s home base for Port Townsend’s Port of Entry and as the local Federal Post Office. Located at Harrison and Van Buren Streets.

Jefferson County Courthouse
Operating continuously since 1892, the Courthouse is still the center of justice in the county and the clock tower bell tolls the hours. Located at Jefferson, Walker and Cass Streets.

Point Wilson Lighthouse

Port Townsend Marine Science Center
Located on the dock at Fort Worden beach, the Center features touch pools, aquarium displays, and natural history exhibits. Puget Sound Coast Artillery Museum
Exhibits are dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Coast Artillery history and emphasize the Harbor Defenses of Puget Sound, and all other military activities at Fort Worden from 1898 until 1969, when the Fort was decommissioned. Commanding Officer’s Quarters

Port Townsend Aero Museum
A “living” museum where approx. 15 volunteer youths are trained to restore antique planes, owned by both the museum and private individuals. There are 29 planes in 11 hangers. Call (360) 379-5244. Located at Jefferson County International Airport.

Museums: Surrounding Areas

Museum & Arts Center
This museum houses a history-shattering exhibit of Mastodon bones excavated on the farmland above Sequim. One of the finds contains an arrow point embedded in the rib in what is called “the most important Mastodon ever found.” This find pushed the proof of human contact back past the Mammoths into the Mastodon era 14,000 years ago. Quilcene Historical Museum
This museum focuses on logging, mining, and Native American history. Call (360) 765-4848 for information. Driving time is approx. 30 minutes from the Inn

Naval Undersea Museum
Step through a submarine hatch, practice driving a submarine, see a Civil War torpedo, hear the sounds of whales and snapping shrimp, and much more at the official U. S. Navy museum which documents the heritage and science of the undersea. Open daily 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (closed Tuesdays October-May). Admission and parking are free. Call (360) 396-4148 for information and directions. Located on Bainbridge Island at Keyport, approximately 45 minutes from the Inn.

The Makah Cultural and Research Center
Nationally acclaimed exhibits center on the ancient whaling village that was buried by a mudslide hundreds of years ago at Ozette. Artifacts from this find are considered “one of the most significant archaeological discoveries ever made in North America.” Displays include full scale replicas of cedar long houses as well as whaling, sealing and fishing canoes. The driving time from the Inn is approximately 2½-3 hours each direction, depending on road conditions and offers rugged coast line views, spectacular fjord-like Lake Crescent, mountains, wildlife, and a chance to visit the northern-most point in the continental US. Royal BC Museum
A day-trip to this world-renowned museum requires a full day, both for travel across the Olympic Peninsula and the Straits of Juan de Fuca to Victoria and for time to explore the museum, but the reward is very well worth the effort. Exhibits include reproductions of a captain’s quarters on a sailing ship, a First People’s cedar-plank Big House, a Salish pit dwelling, an 1890’s gold mine, a frontier town, and many more.
